Cultivating Sadhana Weekend Series with richmond dickson

Creating a personal practice is essential to maturing one’s development as a yoga practitioner and is an integral part of studying Shadow Yoga. While persistence and devotion are required, one also needs a flexible, creative set of tools and a solid theoretical understanding to meet one’s changing needs from day-to-day, and to realize the inner potentials of yoga.

The once-a-month weekend workshop format will afford the time and space to delve deeply into the practical, philosophical, and energetic basis of various yoga forms, including “seed” asanas and primary asana-vinyasas. Students will gain a deeper understanding of how to utilize Hatha Yoga for personal growth, prepare the subtle body for the internal limbs of yoga, and address special therapeutic needs such as women’s and men’s health and recovering from injury or illness.

Weekend Topics:

Note: Depending on the abilities of the individual student, one or more of the following forms will be presented for them to work with until which point the student displays a level of ease and facility with the form(s).

~ Hatha Yoga Basics
The Shadow Yoga Basics workshop provides students with an opportunity to learn or review warm-up sequences, which include joint mobilization, body scanning, and squatting exercises, as well as introducing the fundamentals of Hatha Yoga.

~ Strengthening the Bones, Joints & Nerves
This form establishes the proper foundation for moving forward with the practice of Hatha Yoga. A dynamic bone strengthening form based on endurance, it actively engages one’s feet, ankles, knees, hips, navel and breath, and teaches the practitioner how to properly stand, sit, and experience stillness.

 ~ Moving From the Core
This practice is designed to teach the essence of the foundational energetic principles that lie at the heart of all internal martial arts. Along with activating the central power structure of the pelvic floor and abdomen, this warrior-sun form teaches one the art of graceful, un-imposed movement and coordination.

~ Merging with the Energy Body
This form consists of intricate stance, waist, spine and arm work, which further increases, refines and invigorates the animate force within.  This form prepares the practitioner to enter into the full practice format, also known as vinyasa yoga, which includes Rhythmic Dance, Mudra, Meditation and Pranayama.

 ~ Rhythmic Dance of Vinyasa

This advanced circular form incorporates the lessons learned from prior work, and utilizes the absorbed principles of unimposed posture and movement. This practice is intended to aid the student in the process of the dissolution of their mental projections so that they might see their true self. Physically, the practice is rather simple and the movements are accessible; the challenge, however, is in ones ability to remain focused on the void and remain unencumbered by their emotions and thoughts.
